Lymm Eagles 14 Moore 28

Moore overturned a half time deficit to record their first win of the season away at Lymm Eagles, thanks to the excellent penalty kicking of Sam Craven.

Moore started the game in fine style, with a take from the kick off being recycled well and chipped into space for Matt Mossop to collect, before executing an offload to perfection for Joe Pidgeon to score, putting Moore up 7-0 in within a minute.

Moore continued to look good, but could not convert pressure into points, despite several forays into the Lymm 22m. The hosts steadily got themselves into the game, first stealing a ball from a Moore lineout to score from a driving maul. The Lymm pack continued to work well, with them beginning to exert more and more pressure. After a sustained period of pressure the hosts were able to double the score after a number of missed tackles. The rest of the first half fizzled out, with neither team really putting pressure on the other. Half time 14 -7

The second half started as brightly as the first half had for Moore. A Lymm knock on was quickly retrieved by Moore and shipped across the line, with Mike Barr making an excellent line break before finding Sam Craven for the score to bring the game to 14-12.

Again, the teams continued to be evenly matched, with the game played in between the two 22m metre lines. With Moore unable to gain any joy in the lineout, it was decided to start kicking penalties on a regular basis, with Sam Craven slotting 3 kicks comfortably, with one on the half way line to give Moore a 14-21 lead.

Galvanised by getting back into the lead, Moore started to take the upper hand in the game, especially as Lymm started to tire. Relentless work from the Moore pack eventually saw space for scrum half Joe Long to break and run in a try to give Moore a final try and to push the score to 14-28.

Moore continue to push forward with excellent team spirit and are improving week on week. Next Saturday sees the visit of Prenton Academicals to Moss Lane with a 3pm Kick Off.
